TIME ZONE

Armenia Time (AMT) is a time zone used in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh. Armenia Time is at UTC+4. The daylight saving time adjustment, Armenia Summer Time (AMST), was discontinued in 2012.

WEATHER

The climate in Armenia is markedly continental. Summers are dry and sunny, lasting from June to mid-September. The temperature fluctuates between 22 and 36 °C (72 and 97 °F). However, the low humidity level mitigates the effect of high temperatures. Evening breezes blowing down the mountains provide a welcome refreshing and cooling effect. Springs are short, while autumns are long. Autumns are known for their vibrant and colorful foliage.

It is important to keep yourself hydrated. Drink water and natural juices throughout the day.

Lightweight clothes are very welcome in summer, but it´s always good to have mid-season clothes in case of an exception. We remind you, however, that the conference rooms always have air-conditioning.

WATER

Drinking water in Armenia mostly (96%) has high quality and formed mainly in springs. You can open the tap either at a hotel or in a house and drink running water. It’s absolutely safe for drinking and even tasty. Or  you can buy bottled water in every food store, most trademarks are of Armenian production.

VOLTAGE AND POWER PLUG

In Armenia the standard voltage is 230 V. The standard frequency is 50 Hz. The power sockets that are used are of type C / F.

You can use your electric appliances in Armenia, if the standard voltage in your country is in between 220V – 240V (as in the UK, Europe, Australia and most of Asia and Africa). Manufacturers take these small deviations into account. If the standard voltage in your country is in the range of 100V – 127V (as in the US, Canada and most South American countries), you need a power converter.

CURRENCY

The Armenian monetary unit is the Armenian Dram (AMD). In stores and other commercial centers trade is carried out in the national currency only. But there is no problem with the foreign currency exchange, as in many stores and supermarkets there are exchange desks where you can exchange any currency. Exchange rates are available online.

All major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express) are accepted in many commercial facilities, restaurants and cafes in Yerevan.

TIPS

Restaurants: You are not obligated to tip, but most frequently, 10% is added to the bill.

Taxis: Taxi drivers don’t expect tips, but usually the passengers pay something more if they are satisfied with the service.

TRANSPORTATION

Though the transportation system in Yerevan comprises buses, minibuses, subway, it’s better to take a taxi that Yerevan is rich in. To get a taxi is very easy and very cheap.
